Use either colored paper or white paper for the lantern. If using white paper, you can decorate the lantern paper using any designs or colors you like, a Chinese motif would look nice. (Red is considered a lucky color for the Chinese). |

Fold decorated paper in half the long way |

Make cuts along the folded side about every 1 1/2 to 2 inches. Be careful not to cut all the way through. |

Unfold the paper and round and bend the short sides together. Staple the open area at the top bottom and middle.

Cut a strip of paper and staple it across the top for a handle. |

You can put a small flash light inside to light up your lantern. |
