SAN FRANCISCO: Southwest Airlines, title sponsor of the Chinese New Year Festival and Parade, along with the Chinese Chamber of Commerce invite you to attend the a parade preview to open festivities celebrating the Year of the Hare, Lunar Year 4709. The mini parade begins at historic St. Mary's Square, follows the original parade route down Grant Avenue and proceeds to the Flower Fair's main stage on Washington Street below Grant Avenue. Following the procession, City dignitaries will join honored guests in officially opening the festival with a ribbon cutting ceremony. (Estimated time for the ribbon cutting ceremony 10:45 a.m.)
Lion dancing, Chinese giant puppets elaborately costumed and Chinese deities will be in Chinatown to help kick off the new year. You can even have your picture taken with one of the Chinese deities.
Bring your family and friends and spend the day in Chinatown at the annual Flower Fair You will find over 80 booths and concessions where you can purchase new year's flowers, plants, fruits and candies. The Flower Fair will be open until 8:00 p.m. and again on Sunday, January 30 from 9:00am-6:00pm. |
