The San Francisco Symphony rings in the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Monkey on Saturday, February 13 at its6th Annual Chinese New Year Concert and Celebration at Davies Symphony Hall. The celebrations begin with a Festival Reception for all ticketholders at 2:00pm. Pre-concert festivities in the Davies Symphony Hall lobbies provide playful entertainment and activities in the spirit of the Monkey. These include children’s arts and crafts, lion dancing and Chinese calligraphy, as well as complimentary food, desserts and tea bars. The 3:00pm concert celebrates San Francisco’s unique cultural fabric by featuring a combination of traditional Asian music alongside orchestral works influenced by both Eastern and Western musical traditions. The elegant Imperial Dinner, inspired by the rich visual pageantry of traditional Lunar New Year celebrations, is at 5:00pm in Zellerbach Rehearsal Hall, located at 300 Franklin Street at the rear of Davies Symphony Hall. Dinner packages that include access to the Festival Reception, premiere concert seating, and the Imperial Dinner are sold separately. All proceeds benefit the Orchestra’s myriad community outreach and education programs, which provide music education to more than 75,000 Bay Area school children each year.
TICKETS: Tickets for the Chinese New Year concert and the pre-concert Festival Reception are $30-$74 and are available through sfsymphony.org, by phone at (415) 864-6000, or at the Davies Symphony Hall Box Office on Grove Street between Van Ness Avenue and Franklin Street.
The event chair is Patti Lee-Hoffmann. Dinner packages that include access to the Festival Reception, premiere concert seating, and the Imperial Dinner are $375-$1000 and are available on the SF Symphony website or by calling the SFS Volunteer Council at (415) 503-5500.
